Biography

Kilusan Bautista is an interdisciplinary life practitioner. Creator of two solo hip hop theater productions: Universal Filipino (2010) and Transcend (2016). Grant recipient from the Brooklyn Arts Council (2014), Foundation for Contemporary Arts (2016) and California Council for the Humanities (2005).   Kilusan has worked with historically oppressed communities for over 20 years from California to New York City as a social justice arts educator and founder of the Universal Self Educational Program within the NYC Department of Education (2012).Kilusan received his MFA in 2022 at CUNY – Brooklyn College – Performance and Interactive Media Arts (PIMA), where he developed a new immersive theater experience entitled, “PXSO: PhoeniX rising in ScorpiO” to raise awareness about Charge Syndrome and disability rights.  Kilusan was an inaugural 'Actionist Fellow' with Social Practice CUNY - part of a Mellon Foundation Initiative, where Kilusan developed a Fathers with disabled children support group with the NY Parent Association for Deaf Blind).  Kilusan is proudly raising two beautiful daughters in Bedford Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn NY.
